Belgique Racing Jaune / België racegeel
‘Belgique Racing Jaune’ or ‘België racegeel’, say it in French or Dutch, it is the Belgium Racing Yellow. When Count Eliot Zborowski in 1900 proposed for the Gordon Bennett Cup that each national entrant be allotted a different colour, Belgium somehow ended with yellow. Maybe the Duke of Brabant’s medieval coat of arms with a gold lion was the inspiration. Nevertheless, neither Jacky Ickx, Thierry Boutsen nor Camille Jenatzy ever raced in yellow cars. That doesn’t mean that Belgium didn’t have racing teams, although almost all were run by Jacques Swaters — Ecurie Francorchamps, Ecurie Belgique, Ecurie Belge, Ecurie Nationale Belge…
