Racing Green

€320.00

Before cars there were locomotives. The best were made in Britain and painted in either dark green or black because these colors required less maintenance, cleaning, or repainting. In 1902, the United Kingdom entered the Gordon Bennett Cup, which was a national car race, and they had to choose a national color. Since all of Britain's usual colors were already taken, they chose green because it was associated with locomotives. Moreover, the winning Napier was also painted in green. In 1903, the UK organized the Gordon Bennett Cup race in Ireland, which was then part of the UK and had no speed limits compared to England's 19 km/h limit. For this race, the Shamrock, Irish, green shade was adopted, and it became known as Racing Green. Today, it is famously known as British Racing Green.
