Weiß
‘Weiß’ means white and meant German racing car, until it became silver. Chosen at the infamous Gordon Bennet Cup, Mercedes and Auto Union racing cars were white until the 1930s when white evolved into mythical silver and ‘Silberpfeil’, the Silver Arrows, were born. According to Alfred Neubauer, legendary Mercedes-Benz racing manager, he and his driver Manfred von Brauchitsch 1934 came up with the idea of saving weight on the W25 Grand Prix car by removing all the white paint and leaving the car in bare aluminium. The rest is legend.
